Trinity Law Programme
For the last five weeks, a selection of our Transition Year students have been taking part in a Trinity Access Programme called Street Law. Two trainee solicitors, Ms Katie Haberlin and Mr John Coffey deliver the course to the group. The students are taught the foundations of Irish Law and investigate real court cases and make their own informed judgements. The course has proven to be hugely popular among all that have taken part to date. As part of the ongoing Street Law Programme, 29 of our Transition Year students accompanied by Ms Duignan and Ms Jordan, went to the Criminal Courts on Parkgate Street. Our students were perfectly behaved and were truly a credit, we were noted by the judge for our clear interest and enthusiasm. They started off the day in Court 27 where they were assigned roles and they took part in a mock trial. The students were well prepared for this and they made the experience both very educational but also entertaining. Everyone got involved and participated in the court scene. Following this, we were split into groups and were allowed access into the courts that were taking place that day. It was extremely interesting and very informative, the students were able to listen to real barristers prosecuting and defending their clients. We would like to thank the Criminal Court for making the day so educationally beneficial and special thanks to John Lunney, Katie Haberlin and John Coffey.
