What is the PTA?

 

The Parent Teacher Association is an association that represents the views of parents and guardians. The role of the association includes:

  • Encouraging good relations between parents, guardians, teachers, students and school management.
  • Supporting the development, growth and welfare of students through sport, educational trips and other school activities.
  • Helping to develop and reinforce the ethos of the school
When do we meet?

 

 

The PTA meets once a month (Monday nights) in the Sports Complex from 7.OOpm to 8.15pm.

  • The format of the PTA meetings includes the discussion of the following items: The previous PTA minutes, school updates, the treasurer’s report, matters arising and AOB.

  1. Where is the best place to get a uniform for my son/daughter?
  • John Lawrence in Thomas Street to purchase jumpers, kilts, shirts, trousers, track suit and school tie
  • White shirts and trousers can also be purchased in Dunnes Stores, Penny’s or Marks & Spencers (although trousers may be cheaper in these shops the quality would not be great so you may end up having to buy extra trousers during the year)

 

  1. I am worried about my son/daughter’s progress in school at the moment.

What can I do?

  • You can contact the school by first by writing a note to your son’s/daughter’s tutor.
  • Next, you can make an appointment to see your son’s /daughter’s Year Head to discuss his/her progress.
  • Finally, you can contact the Principal or Deputy Principal.

 

  1. Why should I pay the voluntary subscription each year for my son/daughter?
  • All money received from voluntary subscriptions are used for the benefit or your son or daughter.
  • These benefits include the funding of buses for extra-curricular activities i.e. basketball, soccer, football, athletics and educational trips.
  • Funding is also made available to 6th year graduation and pantomime.

 

 

 

Calendar of Events 2015/2016

 

Term 1

  • 31st August- School year commences.
  • 18th September-Open day for local Primary schools.
  • 21st September-Open night, 7.00-9.30.
  • 7th October- Enrolments for 5th class primary school students;2.00-4.00 pm.
  • 23rd October- Mid –term commences-classes finish at 3.45.
  • 2nd November- Students return to school at 8.45.
  • 16th November-3rd/6th year Parent/Teacher meeting:  00 pm- 6.30 pm.
  • 22nd December-Christmas holidays commence.

Term 2

  • 6th January-Students return to school.
  • 14th January-2nd/5th year Parent/Teacher meeting: 4.00pm-6.30 pm.
  • 27th January-Assessment Test for incoming 1st years:2.00-5.00 pm.
  • 28th January-Beginning of examinations for all students.
  • 12th February-Mid –term commences-Classes finish at 3.45.
  • 22nd February- Return to school at 8.45.
  • 8th March-Information meeting for 4th Year and 3rd year parents.
  • 16th March-Easter holidays commence. Classes finish at 13.05

 

Term 3

  • 4th April-Students return to school at 8.45.
  • 12th April-Information evening for incoming 1st year parents:
  • 2nd May-School closed.
  • 11th May-Sports day.
  • 24th May -School prize giving
  • 25th May-6th year Graduation Mass.
  • 26th May- Summer examinations commence.
  • 3rd June- Summer holidays commence.
