An Tobar (Autism Special Classes)

Our Ethos

At Pobalscoil Iosolde, we are proud to provide four Autism Special Classes known collectively as An Tobar, meaning The Well - a place of calm, growth and connection.
Our aim is to create a learning environment where every student feels valued, supported and understood.

An Tobar is more than a set of classrooms - it is a community within our school that celebrates difference, encourages growth and promotes belonging.

We work in partnership with parents and professionals to nurture each student’s independence, confidence and joy in learning.

Our practice is guided by the principles of the NCSE Inclusive Education Framework and the Department of Education Guidelines on Special Class Provision.

Our Classes

An Tobar currently consists of four Autism Classes, each catering for six students.
Every class is led by dedicated teachers and supported by two Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) each.

We also work closely with visiting professionals such as psychologists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists to ensure each student’s individual needs are met.

Our Environment

Our purpose-built facilities include:

  • Sensory rooms designed to support regulation and relaxation

  • Calm areas for students who need quiet space during the school day

  • A kitchen area that helps promote independence and life skills

  • Accessible bathrooms for comfort and dignity

  • An enclosed sensory garden providing a safe and soothing outdoor environment

These spaces have been created to foster wellbeing, engagement and positive sensory experiences.
